The site of the Hosshō-ji nine-storied pagoda marks where a towering nine-tiered pagoda once stood at Hosshō-ji, a temple founded under Emperor Shirakawa in the Heian period. The temple is gone, and a marker in the Okazaki area notes its former location.
Jurakudai is the former site of the lavish residence and administrative palace built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in Kyoto. It stood only briefly before being demolished, and today markers in the Kamigyo Ward area indicate its location.
