Sōgen-ji park in Naha occupies the former grounds of Sōgen-ji, a Buddhist temple that once enshrined the mortuary tablets of the Ryukyu kings. Although the temple halls are gone, its stone gate still stands at the entrance, marking the site of the old royal memorial temple amid a neighborhood green space.
